What you may not know about Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is still surrounded by mystery, some people are still unsure about its benefits and safety, or understand how it works. Here are some facts that may help you decide if this is the right kind of treatment for you.
Will it feel unbearably cold?
Since the air inside the cold chamber is extremely dry, the extreme dry cold temperature will not actually feel as unpleasant as expected, even though it reaches -110˚C. Plus, you need to bear in mind that the whole process only takes about 3 minutes, a quick in and out session!
Can Cryotherapy give me a cold?
It is impossible to get a cold from cryotherapy because when your body is exposed to extreme cold, its internal temperature increases. Furthermore, colds are caused by viruses that do not survive in extremely cold conditions. You will notice that following the treatment, you will be in fact less sensitive to the cold and your immune system will have improved.
What will happen inside the cold chamber?
When you step inside the chamber at Rocky Mountain Cryotherapy, you will be wearing little more than socks and gloves. The temperature on the surface of your skin will immediately drop down to below freezing, letting you know you that your nerve endings have begun to send signals to your central nervous system, which is what it does when your body is in critical danger. In turn, the body instantly reacts by increasing the production of endorphins (feeling great substances), serotonin (natural painkillers) as well as natural anti-inflammatories substances, thus improving your blood circulation and oxygen flow, leading to the disposal of toxins and residues.
Cryotherapy has been safely used for over 30 years now and is a relatively risk-free treatment. There is the possibility of a slight rise in your blood pressure but this is temporary. Frostbite is avoided with the use of dry socks and gloves. You will be asked to remove your jewelry including piercings and will discuss contraindications with the therapist.
